9th Aug 2014 (大個 – J.Arie (雷琛瑜))

The song that I chose for today is “大個” by J.Arie. J.Arie got a very interesting background. She got a degree in Bachelor of Law, but upon she completed the degree she decided she wanted to pursue a career in music. From memory, she did her degree because her parents wanted her to despite at an earlier age she already wanted to pursue a career in music. The direct English translation of the title is “Grow up”, and I think the lyrics of the song is tailor make for her to describe her story.

The lyrics of the song are about how a child is growing up, wanted to depart from what the parents wanted her to do and pursue her own dream. The protagonist said, when she was in her parents arms, she listen to them. Once upon a time, she didn’t found her parents nagging annoying. She even wares cloths that no longer fit her all because her parents chose it for her. She now slowly grows up and got stronger. Slowly, she starts to go to school by herself. Falling in love, after school, discuss about dreams, all are topics that are hard to talk to her parents. Please don’t be insulted, as they must overcome this generation gap. Parents, did she have you disappointed? Please let her be herself, perhaps she will surprise you, or got you angry? But she knows she lighten her life. In this world, she knows that she needs to shine. Perhaps this is not what her parents hoped for, but this child is now a grown up. She still likes to listen to her mom, she still like the strictness of her dad. She knows that she is so wilful that have let her family down, but could she get some applause? She wishes that she could become fireworks some days, just so that she could give them joy. She wanted them to view her the same way when she was born. Getting late? Her mom handed her over a hot soup. Got tired? They asked whether there are anything that she need help with. Supported her to get over the problem, using their hands to support her, tears, already dropped? She didn’t remember she make them cried like that. But she guesses she wasn’t so wrong. Only hoped that she could give them the best memories. She doesn’t know that to say, but she guesses she is grown up now. Hope you will like the song.
